You forgot they opened for the Plant Page show at the Tacoma Dome in June 1995. We were having dinner nearby and going to skip the opening act, but someone mentioned Tragically Hip - and we bolted to get the opening 5 songs or so. First we say them after loving them from New Orleans is Sinking in 1989. Two nights later at Memorial Stadium the Grateful Dead played their last Seattle show, and my first, before Jerry died later in the sumer. ps. just now listening to Hip Channel and the Show Box show of 2012 - which somehow I think we missed. I was at this show. Travelled from Banff with friends. We had moving vans rented! We were parked along the row just before one of the tunnels beneath the highway. We’re we together man? A bunch of us took mushrooms and my friend stepped in a gopher hole and had to go to tue hospital. Any of this ring a bell? . What an amazing show full of memories. . Then played Under the Rail in 1992 for The Fully Completely Tour. I believe they started their tour in Seattle or it was one of the first shows on the tour before they hit Canada. When if finally arrived it blew sideways onto the stage. I am amazed that nothing blew up! I was almost certain the show was done... the campground was levelled! People had to scramble to save their tents! (Actually, they let people go and come back which was kinda a no-rule for the Gorge!)
I had my HIP jersey on... the storm came and it was ugly! Someone pulled out a tarp so I grabbed a corner of it and held it up for people to get under. A young girl in a HIP shirt was drenched and she got under the tarp and we all sang AC/DC Thunderstruck!
After the storm blew over, the stage crew was pushing hail off the stage with squeegees. It was coming off the front of the stage like waterfalls! I figured we were toast!
Well, about 1 hour later... out marches The HIP!! OMG!! One of the happiest moments of my concert life! The setlist was shortened because of the disaster.... but the show went on!
Thank-you Adrian Burden for posting this! I have no idea how you found it but I gotta tell ya... it has brought a few tears to my eyes.
