We Are Unplugged (2009 Compilation)

Pin It Now!

'We Are Unplugged' is a compilation of all the acoustic songs that The Tragically Hip played during their 2009 We Are The Same Tour.  If you remember, they began the 2nd set with 3 acoustic tunes. Some were expected. Others were not.

Most probably didn't expect songs like Courage, My Music At Work, Greasy Jungle or An Inch An Hour to be slotted in here, yet they turned out to be remarkably effective. A bunch of the songs below have always been calling for this type of format and just fit in seamlessly.

I know for myself, getting to hear The Bear and Toronto #4 were personal highlights. We get a few deep-cuts in this compilation and that mirrored the entire tour as 2009 saw a lot of us add previously unseen songs to our lifetime tallies beyond the new album of course.

Notes: Aaaaah Yes! This is what I've been talking about. Little Bones 2nd. No one saw that coming. A nice 1-2 punch with Love Is A First. Beautiful. NOIS deep in the 2nd set. Fine. If you're gonna play it every night, might as well move it around. Fully Completely back in the encore is very nice too. Tour breakout for The Kids Don't Get It. In View not played as well and it looks like things worked out OK.

The Hip to Play Canadian Night in L.A.

Pin It Now!

The Tragically Hip are teaming up with the LA Kings to help promote their Canadian Night on Oct 29, 2009. Fans can purchase a combo ticket that includes both the game (vs Vancouver Canucks) and the show afterward starting from $39 USD. That's a pretty good deal and is usually the average price for attending just one of these events. This is a pretty cool opportunity for any west coast fans.

LA Kings To Host First-Ever Canadian Night

The Los Angeles Kings, in conjunction with AEG Live, will host their first-ever Canadian Night that includes a post-game concert from Canada's premier band, The Tragically Hip, when the team welcomes the Vancouver Canucks to STAPLES Center on Thursday, October 29 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets start at just $39 and include a ticket to the game and a ticket to the post-game concert starting at 10:00 pm at Club Nokia at LA LIVE. Discounts are also available for groups of 15 or more. Tickets go on sale to the general public on August 28 with tickets available in all areas of the arena. To purchase tickets, visit LAKings.com/canadiannight, ">Ticketmaster.com or call 1-888-KINGS-LA.

The Tragically Hip is a Canadian rock band that first formed in Kingston, Ontario in 1983. Band members include Gordon Downie (lead vocals and guitar), Paul Langlois (guitar), Rob Baker (guitar), Gord Sinclair (bass) and Johnny Fay (drums).

Commonly referred to as The Hip, the band has produced 12 studio albums, holds the record for most number one debuts on the Canadian Albums Chart and is a member of the Canadian Music Hall of Fame (inducted in 2005). The band soon will begin a fall tour supporting their latest album, We Are The Same (released in April of 2009). Click Here for more band info.

LA Kings Hockey Fest '09 is a new three-day interactive festival celebrating the Kings and the game of hockey from August 28-30 at LA Live in the heart of downtown Los Angeles. For all event information, visit LAKings.com/hockeyfest.

Individual day Hockey Fest tickets are available for purchase at all Ticketmaster outlets. Tickets for Saturday and Sunday cost $27 each while a ticket for Friday costs $37.

Three-day Hockey Fest tickets cost $60 with each ticket allowing admittance into all LA Kings Hockey Fest '09 events for the weekend. Tickets for kids five years of age and under are free. Discounted tickets for groups are also available.

Notes: You know, with some of theses set lists there isn't really much to say. We've been here before. That being said and without consulting my "chart" what I will say about this show is I think this was the 4th appearance of The Bear (ever), Little Bones has a rare non-encore slot, Coffee Girl returns from Acoustic Exile, and Tiger the Lion closes out the first set, a job that usually goes to Love Is A First.

Derek Trucks and his band are playing at Yonge and Dundas Square tonight at 9pm. It's free. He's a top 5 guitar player among those of us above ground so if you're in the area check him out. You will not leave disappointed.

There were no tour breakouts this show but, Love Is A First was played in the 2nd for the first time. I only mention this because of what I wrote just last post regarding its placement in first sets only.

Whether intentional or not, I like the Toronto theme sprinkled throughout the 2nd set and encore. Was it a nod to the 1st place Blue Jays right in the Red Sox backyard? Frustration of the Bruin's performance versus Carolina by long time fan Gord Downie? A nod toward Massey Hall? Coincidence? Regardless Toronto #4, Queen of the Furrows, Bobcaygeon and Fifty Mission Cap.

After only being played in one of the first three shows, NOIS is on a current four show run and 6 for the last 7. It appears the song may be around all the time for another while yet, like it or not. Another notable run is Courage: 4 of the last 5 including one acoustic version.

Frozen In My Tracks was actually the last of the new songs to be performed live on this tour with its breakout coming in Montreal already five shows into the tour. However since that point the song is on a 5 of 6 run including the last 3 in a row. Two of these have also been in the encore.
