The Hip are back in action tonight in Buffalo, NY after having a good portion of a week off. The are about to embark on the U.S. leg of their summer tour with tonight's show and tomorrow's just outside of Chicago, IL.

Interviews with a few of the boys at the time of Paul's Kingston show in August 2012...

Armed with will and determination, the Tragically Hip embarked 30 years ago on a rock ‘n roll journey that has taken them around the world and across Canada more times than the band members can remember.

Those trips have resulted in songs and lyrics that will forever resonate with the group’s devoted fan base. “At the Hundredth Meridian,” “Last American Exit,” “As I Wind Down the Pines” and “Silver Jet” — with its continent-binding lyric about flying “from Clayoqout Sound to Cape Spear” — are only a handful of the Hip’s songs that reference Canadian geography and a sense of the nation’s vastness.

Another travel-inspired tune is “Broken Road,” which appears on guitarist Paul Langlois’ solo album, “Fix This Head.” The song was written “while I was in the middle of doing a lot of driving for these guys,” says Langlois, whose lyrics speak of being 700 miles away and homesick for Cataraqui — the river that flows through the Hip’s hometown of Kingston, Ontario. It recalls the quintet’s early days in the ’80s when they toured the country in a van, not the luxury bus or airline flight that takes them from stop to stop these days.

After some fun with Cordelia Lyrics on the Facebook Page yesterday I thought I would dig up a couple of Gems from back in the day. Since the band is about to go on the road we fans are bursting with expectations and hopes... especially regarding what the setlists might hold. 

The past 2 summers of mini-tours have brought us unprecedented cookie-cutter setlists from The Hip which after the epic 2009 two-set, deep cut monster setlists has been a bit of a disappointment. What those awesome setlists from 2009 did not give us however, was a Cordelia. Here's hoping that there's a few versions of this beautiful song in our very near future... Enjoy!

Here's a short film by David Battistella. I just learned of it while perusing the forums over at Hipbase. Enjoy.

In this short documentary about The Tragically Hip, director David Battistella uses a split-screen and acid-etched colours to distil the iconic Canadian band’s essence. After decades together, through hotels, highways, gigs and recording sessions, The Hip’s members have forged a powerful brotherhood. "These guys are my life partners, musically" says bass guitarist Gord Sinclair. The Hip's brand of straight-ahead rock and roll has catapulted the band to international stardom, and ensured them a place in Canadian musical history, but at heart, they remain a bunch of guys from Kingston, Ontario, making music together just for fun.

This film was produced for the 2008 Governor General's Performing Arts Award.
