Here's the article announcing that The Tragically Hip will be appearing at this year's 'Rock The Park' festival in London, ON...
It’s official — the Tragically Hip are coming back to rock Harris Park.
Canada’s No. 1 rock band is to be confirmed on Friday as the July 25 opening-night headliners for the 2013 edition of Rock the Park.
The Kingston rockers are touring Canada to support their 13th studio album, Now For Plan A. That tour ends at Toronto’s Air Canada Centre on Feb. 14, but does not stop in London.
Weeks ago, that absence in the winter tour schedule fuelled buzz on lfpress.com that the Hip would be here in the summer. The band’s Robby Baker (guitar), Gord Downie (vocals, guitar), Johnny Fay (drums), Paul Langlois (guitar) and Gord Sinclair (bass) grew up in Kingston.
The Hip have sold more than eight million albums worldwide and collected 11 Junos. The group released its self-titled debut in 1987.
The Tragically Hip return to Harris Park after quickly selling out 12,000 tickets at their 2009 Rock The Park performance.
London-based Jones Entertainment Group (JEG) launched Rock the Park in 2004 as a fundraiser for the Bethanys Hope Foundation, which supports metachromatic-leukodystrophy (MLD) research and those living with the degenerative disease.
Through its first nine editions, Rock the Park has helped raise more than $1.5 million toward MLD research.
Canadian rock band the Trews is also the July 25 bill.
Many details of the 2013 Rock the Park are still to be announced with the July 26-27 lineups likely to have the fest’s trademark classic- rock touches.
