Pretty solid performance relative to recent offerings from the band. Much better than the last free "Show in a Square"... There's lots of time before the upcoming tour so I'm expecting the boys to hit the ground running on this regarding prep, etc. Who know's what sort of format we'll see? Since they will be playing Fully Completely in its entirety every show it really does set up nicely for the 2-set format. The only questions are whether FC will be 1st or 2nd set (if they go that way) and then what sort material will fill out the shows?

It's always fun to anticipate... Hope you all got the tickets you wanted...

Next show: 2015/01/13 Chicago, IL
Previous show: 2013/09/12 Vancouver, BC

Fully & Completely Tour Announced!

Pin It Now!

Hey All!

The Hip are hitting the road again to commemorate their 1992 release of Fully Completely. I'm not sure what the live format will be at this point. Will they play the album in its entirety? Will there be a one or two set format? Keyboardist? How deep will they go for song selection? Will each show be different or will Chicago, New York & Kelowna all get the same songs?

I love tour announcement days!!

Here's the release from the band along with the details regarding the album reissues and ticket on-sale dates....

The Tragically Hip 1993/02/08 Munich, Germany (Full Show Footage)

Pin It Now!

It's so awesome that gems like this are available online with a little digging. This is from the 1993 European Tour that took place in Jan/Feb from what I can tell. It would actually be fairly hard to tell that this tour even took place without this footage. TheHip.com lists only this show and one the day before as the only European dates though user comments suggest the band continued on to England. Bands on the way up, from Canada, etc.... don't just go to Europe for a couple of shows. The investment is too large.

The question becomes, 'Why isn't there more known/archived from this trip?' It seems like a pretty fantastic adventure for a band in their prime. The Hip were on point in this era. They were playing a high number of shows and were a cohesive unit up there on stage. This when The Hip were first grabbing my attention anyway.

I would love to hear anything you know regarding this tour. AUDS, setlists, anything.... Hit up the comments section below or reach us on Facebook or Twitter...

Enjoy the show!

Setlist: Fifty-Mission Cap, Twist My Arm, Courage, Looking For A Place To Happen, Bring It All Back, Pigeon Camera, New Orleans Is Sinking, We'll Go Too, Last Of The Unplucked Gems*, Lionized

Gord Downie & The Sadies Album/Tour

Pin It Now!

Hipheads! Here's the 411 on the upcoming Gord/Sadies album along with confirmed tour dates.

From GordDownie.com

It's been a few years since The Grand Bounce, but Gord Downie is back and has a brand new album with The Sadies! Gord and The Sadies have been long-time friends so it was a natural collaboration to create the new album, "Gord Downie, The Sadies, And The Conquering Sun".
After a long Canadian winter, Gord Downie, The Sadies, And The Conquering Sun are ready to take on spring and summer with a brand new album, live shows and T-shirts!

Gord Downie, The Sadies, And The Conquering Sun - Pre-Order Now!
"It came together urgently but slowly, after the long-time Toronto friends first recorded together for Lake Ontario Waterkeepers in 2006. Fleeting sessions over the next seven years yielded finished songs in immediate, alchemical takes. Gord Downie, The Sadies, And The Conquering Sun is the action of first-thought-best- thought.
The project’s namesake, “The Conquering Sun” fuses The Sadies’ rusted psychedelia with Downie’s humble, volatile wail. Mike Belitsky’s roiling drums, and Sean Dean’s sure, standing bass spur the band through uncharted desert-scapes."

Gord Downie, The Sadies, And The Conquering Sun is the self-titled debut record. This is the mission statement of a young band unhinged. Ten songs of visceral punk rock exultation; a spirited half-hour exploration of the darkness surrounding daylight. Each song brims with energy, electricity embellishing a simple, rustic core — now all brash guitars and punk rock gnarl. Gord Downie, The Sadies, And The Conquering Sun is an arrival: the combustion of brotherhood and dissent: music of wisdom and innocence: poetry of promise and provocation.

Gord Downie, The Sadies & The Conquering Sun

Pin It Now!

Gord Downie has collaborated with The Sadies on a new album due out on April 15th. There are currently 6 tour dates with the possibility of more to follow. I'd like to see them squeeze in a Montreal show to complete the 'Original 6 Tour'...

Anyway, probably not good news for those hoping to catch The Hip on tour this summer... or any kind of extensive tour anyway. Festivals & greatest hits events can pop up at any time I guess - so we'll see on that front as we move into spring.

Check out Alex Hudson's article over on Exclaim! for more details.

The album is available to pre-order digitally on iTunes.

Daredevil - Justin Rutledge

Pin It Now!

A tribute album to The Hip entitled "Daredevil" will be released by Justin Rutledge on April 22, 2014.

You may remember Justin from our 'Hip Covers Project' series. He was the first artist that we used/profiled for his outstanding version of Nautical Disaster. Curiously that song is not on the tracklist (below).

Other musicians helping Justin on this album include Mary Margaret O'Hara, Andy Maize (Skydiggers), Jenn Grant, Brendan Canning (Broken Social Scene) as well as his own backing band.

For those of who follow along on a regular basis, you know that I enjoy takes on The Hip's tunes that don't necessarily mimic the original. I mean, what's the point? That's already been done. I think this album is going to offer some very unique takes judging by Courage.... Have a listen and let me know what you think...

Daredevil:

1. Looking For A Place to Happen
2. Springtime In Vienna
3. Thugs
4. Escape Is At Hand For The Travellin' Man
5. Grace, Too
6. Locked In The Trunk Of A Car
7. Courage (For Hugh Maclennan)
8. Long Time Running
9. Put It Off
10. Fiddler's Green
