The Tragically Hip - Vancouver Fantasy Setlists

Pin It Now!

The Tragically Hip are due to play 3 shows in September at Vancouver's Orpheum Theatre. These shows are, in essence, Vancouver's stop on the 'Now For Plan A' tour. This was a tour that saw Canada's 3rd largest metropolis shut out of the large scale arena shows that his many other places for whatever reason. The thing is that Vancouver fans many end up getting the last laugh.

Instead of an arena rock show, Tragically Hip fans here will be treated to a three night run in an intimate setting a la the 'We Are The Same' tour of 2009. But will their setlist creativity take us back in time? Or will Vancouverites who shelled out big time be spoon fed the same meal night after night after night. This is the question.

For me, a fan since back in the day and a fan of never doing the same thing twice, the past few years have been kind of heartbreaking with this band. Everything that the 2009 WATS tour was the 2012/13 NFPA tour isn't. I thought 2009 was a high water mark moment for the band. I mark 1991 & 1995 as the other two that stand out to me. Lots of other great eras as well, but those stand out to me.

I feel like these were also the times when the band took the most risks, or a lot of risks anyway. In 1991 their sound was evolving from heavy blues rock to something more free and opening up to spaces that would eventually allow the band to take off in many directions instead of staying firmly within a genre. By 1995 the band was a cohesive musical force. One member played of another. Songs went to places that they hadn't ever before. You could actually see a new version of an old song made up right there on the spot. The jamming, both heavy and soft and especially during the stories and the rants was really something to behold. Different songs could appear within NOIS. The setlist didn't have to instruct the band to insert a Nautical. 2009 saw The Hip touring with keys, adding some great songs to the live repitoire and owning more of the night - meaning playing two sets plus an encore. They carried a lot of songs around with them that tour and played them all quite well. The acoustic portion was used to resurrect song that had been put down, to rearrange popular songs such as Courage & My Music At Work and to show a song live for the first time ever (The Bear).

And then 2011 > 2012 > 2013.... WTF happened? Does anybody know? Where did my favourite band go? How do you create an opus like The Depression Suite and then just drop it from the live act? Poof! Gone. These last few years have made me want to go to the depression suite. I haven't even bothered to download live shows from this era.

It's not that I'm some kind of old-timer just clamoring for the old hits. You can kill off most of the "hits" for all I care... or spread them out at least. There were about 6 songs off of the new album that basically never saw the light of day. I don't need Bobcaygeon everyday. I also don't need World Container or Pretend everyday, but I need them some days. Bobcaygeon is so much cooler when you don't know it's coming and maybe you've seen your last few shows without catching it and then FINALLY you hit it again!... and it's a great moment.

When does a band become a charicature of itself? I think it when it stops taking chances and rests on its laurels. I'm not insinuating that The Hip have hit this point yet. They are on the path. Aerosmith has hit this point if you're looking for an example.

And what's up with Gord? He's never been worse. Ever. Take a breath. We're just talking here. But really, what's up? Teleprompter when the setlist is exactly the same every night. The screaming not singing and doing so in such a way that the crowd let alone his bandmates can reasonably lend support with harmonies that somewhat resemble the original song. No more state of consciousness rants, chants, poems, etc.

Is he sick? Forgetful? Doesn't seem that way when he gives interviews. He's aged more than the rest of the guys, it seems to me anyway. I don't know.

So... Vancouver. Here's the situation. We have a 2009 set-up, but the 2013 band. What's going to happen? Is the guy who payed $120+/night for all three nights going to get basically the same show each night or is he going to come away having seen no repeats at all and maybe 70+ different Hip songs performed live and feeling like it was totally worth it? You see, there was a time when I wouldn't have missed something like this. Small venue. In Canada. Three night. Endless possibilities. Now I just feel like meh... I saw the band this past December in L.A. and was going to go back up for the Anaheim show. It ended up raining that day and I just said 'Fuck It'... Slippery roads, crazy drivers, L.A. Douche Bags... I knew what the band was going to play for the most part. 80% of the setlist was already known to me and I have just seen it. And SoCal ain't no Hip HotBed. Who knows if they'll ever be back? And it was raining. That's all it took.

The Hip have been doing 18 song sets with 5 or 6 song encores (so weird).... I want to publish people's 3 night fantasy setlists in this format. If you want the same show 3 nights in a row, fine. If you want it to be absurd (ex. Highway Girl), fine. If you want it to be somewhat realistic based on what they've played, great. Include your made up fantasy setlist for each of the 3 nights and include your name and any notes you may want to add.

Send all entries to mrjackstraw (at) gmail.com

Do not give that out to any Nigerian scammers please.

I'm going to do one of each type. I'll do a Vancouver run ultimate fantasy setlist for each night that includes song that have ZERO chance of being played and I will also do one that will have somewhat of a chance...

Tragically Hip Fantasy Setlist Game 2011.02

Pin It Now!

Buffalo City Hall
OK.  The first submitted setlist I'm going to publish comes from Scott D who is attending The Hip's Buffalo show on July 30, 2011.  This show is a part of the Buffalo Place Rocks the Harbor series.  Other bands in this series include Dark Star Orchestra (a personal favorite), Elvis Costello, Flogging Molly, Alice Cooper & Great Big Sea.  All shows are $10adv. & $20 at the door with the exception being The Hip who come in at $46.

Buffalo has always offered great summertime entertainment.  Thursday's in the Square is a free concert series that has been going on for many years and artists participating in that event this year include Blues Traveler, Grace Potter & the Nocturnals, Lowest of the Low, Sloan, George Clinton & P-Funk and Tokyo Police Club just to name a few.  Be sure to check out the Buffalo Place website for all of the details. This is very cool for residents of Western NY & SW Ontario so take advantage... Even moreso with the value of the Loonie these days.

Alright.  Onto Scott's setlist...

Set I:  Fully Completely, Fireworks, Yer Not the Ocean, Ahead By A Century, Lake Fever, Twist My Arm, Chagrin Falls, Gift Shop, At the Hundredth Meridian, My Music at Work

Set II: The Depression Suite, New Orleans Is Sinking, Love Is A First, Bobcaygeon, Fifty Mission Cap, Blow At High Dough, Last American Exit, Locked in the Trunk of a Car, Little Bones

Encore: Grace Too, Courage

Show Notes:   I think with Scott's setlist the crowd most assuredly got their money's worth.  That's a bevy of Heavy-Hitters throughout both sets as well as the encore.  I don't see much down time for the crowd to recuperate.  Even during the one song that might be labeled a ballad, Bobcaygeon, the crowd goes apeshit over that one anyway.  There would be a lot of grins being flashed on the way out and some tire legs too.

The bust-out and one song that would surely send a buzz throughout the venue and across the Internet among Hipheads is of course Last American Exit.  How appropriate for Buffalo too.  The last acknowledged live version of this tune according to the database at thehip.com  is from a 1989/11/30 show at The Spectrum in Toronto, ON.  I don't know that we'll ever hear another live tune played off The EP.  Especially one that Gord didn't write the lyrics for.

You'll often hear bands mention that they don't play older songs because they don't relate to them anymore or maybe they're embarrassed because they have come such a long way musically, personally, etc.  Or they just want to keep moving forward.  And that's fair.  If a particular song doesn't do it for a band anymore they shouldn't play it.  I don't want to ever see a band Jobbing It.  I want them to love it.  Passionately.  Because fans can see that.  Now, that being said, I'd love to hear what this band that's come so far and grown so much could do with some of these old gems.  There is some great material available.  How very different they would sound now.  This band today plays with a completely different sound, different equipment, different voices and a different perspective.  Wishful think and nothing to lose sleep over at the same time.
So how would they follow up a show like that if they couldn't repeat anything from the previous night?

Possibly...

Set I: Fire in the Hole, Poets, Use It Up, Morning Moon, Summer's Killing Us, Nautical Disaster > Thugs, Flamenco, Escape is at Hand for the Travelin' Man, Cordelia

Set II:  Country Day, Gus: The Polar Bear From Central Park, Boots or Hearts, In View, Greasy Jungle, Freak Turbulence, Fight, 38 Years Old, I'll Believe In You, Inevitably of Death, On the Verge

E: Wheat Kings

Show Notes: Always leave 'em wanting more :)
Thanks Scott.
Cheers,
mjs

Tragically Hip Fantasy Setlist Game 2011.01

Pin It Now!

Whatcha Wanna Hear???
This is a fun game that I like to play as we await the Real Deal.  I call it The Tragically Hip Fantasy Setlist Game.  There's actually no winners or losers so I guess it's more of an exercise than a game.

There's not a lot of rules.  Every song is available for use no matter how long it's been since they last played it.  If they've recorded it or played it live it's OK by me.   I guess the format should be consistent so  I'm going to lay it out as a 2 set show with a single encore.  I think this is the best format for a live Hip show and hopefully they continue on with it at their non-festival shows.  The one thing I don't want are repeats from the previous Fantasy Setlist.  So if this were an actual tour there would be no repeats from Night 1 to Night 2.  And nothing played on Night 2 would be played on Night 3.  And so on.

The first Tragically Hip Fantasy Setlist will be titled 2011.001.  When submitting a setlist please let me know what setlist it was meant to follow.  There is now a Fantasy Setlist Page so you can have a look at how they progress on after another and to help give you some ideas.

Don't let what The Hip have done in the past regarding setlists hold you back.  Think outside the box and have some fun with it.  It does not have to be realistic in the sense that it could ever happen.  Fantasy.

 OK.  Here we go...

Set I:  Highway Girl, Coffee Girl, Thompson Girl, Don't Wake Daddy, Fifty Mission Cap, Looking For A Place To Happen, The Darkest One, Vaccination Scar, So Hard Done By, Something On

Set II:  Fully Completely, Yer Not The Ocean, Little Bones, Scared, The Depression Suite, Membership, The Lonely End Of The Rink, Trickle Down, Love Is A First, The Wherewithal

 E: Sharks, Twist My Arm

 Show Notes***

If you'd like to submit a setlist for possible publication email me HERE.  Feel free to write whatever you want as to why you chose certain songs, song placements and themes (if any).

Cheers,
mrjackstraw

TRAGICALLY HIP FANTASY SETLIST #3
by mrjackstraw

Set I: Are You Ready, The Luxury, Emergency, Small Town Bringdown, The Completists, 38 Years Old, Lonely End of the Rink, I'll Believe in You, Putting Down, Save the Planet, Locked in the Trunk of a Car, Little Bones

Set II: Fire in the Hole, We'll Go Too, Impossibilium, Long Time Running, If New Orleans is Beat, Gift Shop, Dire Wolf, Fight, Emperor Penguin, The Drop Off, No Threat, Trickle Down, The Wherewithal, On the Verge

E: I'm a Werewolf Baby

Setlist notes: As the list of songs I can pull from gets smaller due to the restrictions I have set it gets a little tougher to form a setlist that meets the ebb & flow you'd like while maintaining diversity. This one probably has the least amount of "heavy hitters" compared to the previous two lists, but I think there is a nice grouping here spanning all the eras of The Hip. If you walked into a random bar to see a random band and they threw this line-up of originals at you it would be one kick ass show. Period.

TRAGICALLY HIP FANTASY SETLIST #2
by mrjackstraw

Set I: Poets, Lionized, Every Time You Go, Stay, Throwing Off Glass, Ahead by a Century, Gus, Vaccination Scar, Bring it all Back, So Hard Done By, Something On, Twist My Arm, Inevitability of Death, Fully Completely

Set II: Blow at High Dough, Sliver Jet, When the Weight Comes Down, I'm a Werewolf Baby, Thompson Girl, You're Not the Ocean, As Makeshift as we Are, Springtime in Vienna, Pigeon Camera, Apartment Song, It Can't Be Nashville, Bobcaygeon, Family Band, Highway Girl, Grace Too

E: 50 Mission Cap > Wheat Kings

Setlist Notes: I usually try to stick to a set pattern that goes something like this: High>low>mid>low>high. The crowd generally likes to blast off to start and to go out with a bang when the band leaves the stage at the end of a set. With he amount of material that The Tragically Hip are sitting on, using these setlist guidelines there is a lot of room to try different song combos throughout the body of the sets. Mixing eras etc. Like the Werewolf>Thompson>Ocean combo. Would it sound good? Once again I threw album combos into the setlist. IBE's Gus>Scar and Fully Completely's 50MC>WK. In the encore the premise of "always leave them wanting more" is how I've justified a Wheat Kings send-off for this particular show. Sometimes it's nice to have a song like that sit in your head for a while as you exit and make your way home.

TRAGICALLY HIP FANTASTY SETLIST #1
by mrjackstraw

Set I: Last of the Unplucked Gems > Lake Fever, She Didn't Know, Yawning or Snarling, Music @ Work, Heaven is a Better Place Today, Don't Wake Daddy, Eldorado, Fireworks, Opiated, Kids Don't Get It, Greasy Jungle, Three Pistols, It's a Good Life if You Don't Weaken

Set II: Vapour Trails, Use It Up, Summer's Killing Us, Boots or Hearts, Born in the Water, Courage, Looking for a Place to Happen, In View, Sherpa, Freak Turbulence, An Inch an Hour, 700ft Ceiling, 100th Meridian > Cordelia > 100th Meridian

E: Pretend, Thugs

Setlist notes: I've always had this vision of a curtain blocking the view of the stage and the band taking their place and opening with LOTUG. You know on the album how it gets louder. I see the curtain rising up with the volume revealing the band. Then without any announcement whatsoever from Gord, segue perfectly into Lake Fever. I like the way some songs flow on albums and you get used to hearing these combos. I did this with Courage - LFAPTH mid 2nd set. I think the finish from Freak to the Meridian reprise would be monstrous. Thugs is just a cool fucking song.

Participation in the Tragically Hip Fantasy Setlist Game is easy. Just email your lists to mrjackstraw@gmail.com.

The Rules

This is not the "What's Your Fantasy Setlist? Game" This is also not a "What do you think they will play on the upcoming We Are the Same tour?" game. This is designing random and setlists based on the following critera:

- No song used in the previous two shows, in this case Fantasy Setlist #1 & #2, can be used in Fantasy Setlist #3. That mean ALL of the above songs are unavailable for the purposes of this exercise until...

...Fantasy Setlist #4. This setlist is allowed to take songs from Fantasy Setlist #1, but the limitation is 3 songs only.

Can we create ongoing and dynamic Tragically Hip setlists where a fan could conceivably go to 4 shows and see a maximum of 3 repeats during that period?

- Fantasy Setlist #5 will then have all the songs used in Fantasy Setlist #1 available in any order along with 3 songs from Fantasy Setlist #2 and anything else that hasn't been used up to this point. Of course Fantasy Setlist's #3 & #4 are off limits as is the better part of #2.

-2 set format

Are these setlists designed with the casual or first timer in mind? No. I have had some responses stating that this scenario is highly unlikely to happen. I know. I get it. I appreciate the feedback. No one is obligated here. Just for fun. But do remember, The Tragically Hip put on incredible concerts before Road Apples, before Fully Completely, before Day for Night and so on. Their catalog has a ton of quality and depth.

I am also aware the many We Are the Same songs will occupy slots on this upcoming tour. Let's eliminate them for now as we know really know what they bring to the table as far as live performance goes.

Feel free to contact me directly with any questions.

Cheers,
mrjackstraw

I always love it when I get the news that The Tragically Hip are ready to hit the road again. Calendars are checked and phone calls are made. Though I have gone off in many different musical directions and sought out some incredible live concert experiences, the fact remains that The Hip be the soundtrack to my high school years and the first big time rock & roll show I saw.

Those years were spent in Owen Sound, ON where the end of the school year brought became the beginning of the field party year. We'd usually arrive early by having the gear all packed the night before and cutting Friday afternoon classes. The party organizers would have the sound system set up and I remember perfect afternoons in May and June, shirts off, few arrivals so far, a real chill & friendly atmosphere and The Tragically Hip's Up to Here or Road Apples blaring away.

"Care for a beer?"

"Don't mind if I do."

I think I almost enjoyed the pre-party more than the party itself, when everyone got there, the warmth of the sun was lost and the various liquids, naturals and chemicals kicked in. That's when things got weird and usually out-of-hand. I guess the Moon Tower scene in Dazed and Confused would best describe it to a mass audience though the cars were from a different decade of course. Fuck I love that movie.

I see The Hip every chance I can. Not all chances. Sometimes I cannot. Take the Massey Hall run. I would like to have done all 5. My better half suggests there may be a slight monetary issue with this. Back in the day (bachelorhood) I would have shifted some stuff (food) and this would have happened. As it stands today, 2/5 is where I'm at. I figure 1/5 would be like regular season, 2/5 is like making the playoffs, and each additional show is like winning a playoff round with 5/5 being the Cup. This will be my first show at Massey Hall (unbelievable) and The Hip seem to be about the best I can think of to take my Massey virginity. I haven't been to Artpark so I have to admit I am a little interested in that as well. We'll see. It's a crazy world right now.

I have a lot of Hip road stories and funny adventures that I think it will be fun to write about. Situations that were comical, stressful, surreal, psychedelic and just plain weird. Have I seen the most Tragically Hip shows? No. Not even close. Have I been following them for longer than all of you? Some yes, some no. Doesn't matter. I'm writing. You're reading.

OK, it's 2009 and the Tragically Hip are getting ready to release their 12th studio album, We Are the Same. So far each album has been a little different from each of its predecessors, building on experience and maturing as they should all the while maintaining that essence of Hip. That is, you know a Hip song when you hear it. Not the voice, but the music. I think it says a lot for a band when you can take a handful of fans and ask them to declare their favorite album and each will give a different answer. I expect the same from this album. That it will be different and yet the same too.

"An Evening With...."

The 2009 Tragically Hip tour is taking a similar format to 2000's Music@Work tour in that there will be no opening act and The Hip will perform 2 sets at each show. This format gave fans on that past tour the treat of a deeper roster of songs from the Hip's cannon. About fucking time is what I say. This is something that is long overdo in my opinion. This is going to be great for the fans and for the band. Let's hope it sticks. Feel free to write the band and let them know.

In addition to being a big Tragically Hip fan I listen to endless hours of Grateful Dead and Phish, two bands who have always used the above mentioned format. I have followed these bands and their members in various bands all across North America doing multi-night runs. The difference though is that the DEAD & Phish don't put songs to bed. Bye-bye B-sides like. They find ways to have fun with them. Develop them. Now I know The Hip are not a jam band per se, but they got the improv skills. They have lots of those. Every time Gord goes off on a run they follow the mood up and down and sideways and backwards. All by the seat of their pants.

I really was debating whether I would go see The Hip again after the Feb 8, 2007 show at the ACC. That was the last show I purchased tickets for though my last show was April 20, 2007 in Boston. Yep. 4:20. Bob Marley cover. Had to. Ha ha! Birthday present from the sister. What a trip. Another story for another time however. I made no effort to see The Hip in 2008 even though opportunities were there. I felt I had already seen the show they were going to do. I had had that experience. I like a bit of a new experience each time. Some randomness.

I took issue with that Toronto show on Feb 8, 2007 and I'm going to tell you why. I felt like I was served the same meal twice. You see, I attended the Copps Coliseum show in Hamilton two days earlier. These venues are what, an hour apart? I'm sure I wasn't the only one to take up this outstanding opportunity to fill two dire February nights with some good old Canadian arena rock. And if you did do the double and are reading this now I'm sure you know exactly what I'm getting at. Here's the set-lists:

*Bold = Same song in same slot
**Italic = Same song, different slot

Notice anything? 16 songs were played in both shows. A 66% overlap with 12 of those 16 slotting in the EXACT same spot in the setlist. Boots or Hearts, Good Life, Three Pistols, M@W, Picture My Face (cover), Grace, Too were the 6 songs that were played in Hamilton and not in Toronto while Bobcaygeon (surprise), The Drop Off, Poets, Long Time Running (nice job BTW), 50MC, Diamond Dogs (cover) and Little Bones were the 7 songs played in Toronto and not Hamilton. All told, there were 45 songs played by the band over the span of these two shows. Of the 130+ original songs available to the band they brought us 27 (plus 2 covers).

The performance was great. The playing, the improv, the showmanship. Each show the band gave 110% and that's why I go see them. The Tragically Hip are a hard working band and I love them for it, but they are notorious for dropping songs from their live setlist IMMEDIATELY. I mean, why write the song? Why put it on an album? This was the World Container tour yet they couldn't sub Pretend for WC on one of the nights? Fly? Last Night I Dreamed?, Luv (Sic)? Are these songs on their way to irrelevance? Maybe thehip.com should have a song graveyard section where it is definitively stated, "We will never play these songs again." On the Verge can't be subbed for Fire in the Hole on one night?

I go into every show thinking, "This is the one where I get my Highway Girl. They're gonna dust it off and just have some fun with it. Tonight baby!" Since 1991 I've continually missed that little lady. I was SO excited after Fort York. Could not have been happier. Now that is how you do a two show run. Sherpa, The Wherewithal, Greasy Jungle, Lionized, Flamenco and of course the return of 38 Years Old. That might have been the moment for me. The highest of the highs. And then Hamilton/Toronto.

Why does this happen? I have heard many conspiracy theories.

"This or that song was just too personal. Too much emotional baggage."

"Gord's embarrassed by his early lyrics. He's a poet now, you know. What's a Cemetary Sideroad anyways?"

"The band has done all they can't with that song. It's not fun for them anymore."

Really? 'Put it Off' reached it's full potential? I remember seeing that song in Maple Leaf Gardens in 1996 I think it was, and the drumming was epic. I though it made for a great vehicle to showcase Johnny's skills.

I just don't buy the theory that the band gets tired of songs. It does not explain the New Orleans is Sinking phenomenon. Let's take a look at the entire 2007 year and specifically NOIS during that time. Give me some leeway here. I am quite aware of the high regard this song is given by fans, especially the casual ones that do want to hear certain songs every single time they buy a ticket. But fuck.

2007 saw The Tragically Hip play 104 shows in total. NOIS was played 98 times giving fans a 94% chance of seeing it on any given night. When the band played a venue one time only NOIS was played 100% of the time. The 6 shows that did not include NOIS were always 1 of 2 shows taking place on back-to-back nights at the same venue. Mar 9 in Buffalo, NY; Apr 13 in Detroit,MI; Apr 17 in Burlington, VT; May 12 in Chicago, IL; July 4 in Bala, ON; and Sept 25 in Amsterdam. Furthermore, 54 of those 98 NOIS's came in the 2nd slot. Like clockwork. Astute fans could have secured a beer in a bet with a casual fan.

"Betcha a beer NOIS is next."

"Shit. How'd you know? Lucky."

"Ship that beer dude." Ha ha.

And let's face it. This is not the same NOIS as the early 1990's. Not even fucking close. This is the going through the motions version. Remember when random songs were inserted in the middle? There were big build ups and the whole crowd new when to jump? They would light us all up so we could see everyone. Hands in the air. In sync. Do you get that feeling from this song anymore? I don't. If I didn't know it was coming it would be special when it did. Otherwise may I respectfully request a mid-set slot so I know I definitely have a bathroom break/new beer song. Thanks in advance.

The Hip are just too good to be going through the motions. They've written too many good songs only to see them put to pasture. Randomness. No one can tell me this isn't good for the band and for us, the audience. These guys should be ready to play any one of 80 songs on any given night. The paper taped to the floor should be a guide not a must. If something comes outta nowhere this band has the skills to let it fly. On the fly. Fly. Anyone been to Moon Beam, ON?

My only other issue with The Hip is announcing the song before every song. We know, we know Gord. And if we don't figure it out right away, well that's part of the fun. With more tapers and now having the Live Vault Series I think this takes away from those as well. If people don't recognize a song they will interact with others or maybe go home and look it up on the Internet. Search it out. Buy an album. Download a Hip torrent.

"When you're in a gun fight don't just bring two pistols. Whatcha really need is THREE PISTOLS!!!" We know, we know. Road Apples is a classic. Most of us have bought multiple times. Just rock it. We'll figure it out. Trust me. Trust us.

That's it. I've been wanting to put those thoughts into words for a while now. I began this out of love for a band and I said those thinks for that reason. From here it's all forward>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

We Are the Same. You know I never like a Hip album on first listen, but there isn't one that I don't love. Day for Night perplexed me upon first listen, but now it might just be the one. The one if I were making a list that would go on top. This is a fluid list though. Where will WATS settle in amongst its peers? I'll be honest. I have high hopes. Just not on the first listen :)

In leading up to the album and the tour I've decided to have a little fun doing some Fantasy Hip. This will keep with the theme of this post and is a way to express my excitement for the upcoming tour format. This is a setlist design game. Here are the parameters:

-> The format is 2 sets, 14-16 songs per. One encore with two songs max. No double and triple encore bullshit.

-> A setlist can NEVER contain a song from the previous setlist.

-> A setlist can grab a maximum of 3 songs from the 2nd previous setlist. Therefore Setlist C can take no songs from Setlist B and a maximum of 3 songs from Setlist A.

-> Have fun with it. A set does not necessarily need to end with a heavy hitter. Wheat Kings could shut down a first set nicely. Sometimes it's nice to set the crowd down gently. Just saying. Randomness.

I am going to post the first Tragically Hip Fantasy Setlist below and a new one will be posted every 3 days or so leading up to the tour. It would be great if some were sent in. I only ask that you number it. For example "This is my proposal for Setlist #2". I will only post one and that will be the one that we work off for the next and the next, etc. Fell free to include random thoughts on songs and positions and explain why if you like. Also if you have a website or blog (personal or Hip) I will give you a link back so others can get to know you too. I am aware that this may be just me. The blog is new and my readership as far as I can tell is hovering around 1 including me.

Comments & criticisms are encouraged please.

Cheers all.

TRAGICALLY HIP FANTASTY SETLIST #1

Set I: Last of the Unplucked Gems > Lake Fever, She Didn't Know, Yawning or Snarling, My Music @ Work, Heaven is a Better Place Today, Don't Wake Daddy, Eldorado, Fireworks, Opiated, Kids Don't Get It, Greasy Jungle, Three Pistols, It's a Good Life if You Don't Weaken

Hope you enjoyed!
